14 May 2021: Open Call

Masters, Doctoral and Post-Doctoral researchers are invited to submit an abstract for our OSCG Open Scholarship Prize. Selected applicants will be invited to present their contribution to Open Scholarship during the Open Scholarship Week 2021 on 14 May 2021.

What you need to know

 The Prize recognises the substantial contribution that Open Scholarship makes to the betterment of science and society. Please take note of  the details below.

Masters, Doctoral and Post-Doctoral researchers are invited to submit an abstract and short presentation to the Open Scholarship Community Galway competition on Open
Scholarship.

We welcome submissions from individuals as well as teams. Teams need to make clear who their lead is so communication is clear.

This is an international competition and research students from Ireland and beyond are invited to submit their findings for consideration for the first Open Scholarship Research Prize.

Any Masters, doctoral or postdoctoral researcher worldwide whose research encompasses or features any of the following:
1. The novel use of open data or publicly available data sources to gain new insights.
2. Research into the area of Open Scholarship, open education, open science, open innovation,
curation of open repositories, open publishing, open finance, or open source software development.
3. Research into practices used and/or challenges faced in opening traditional ecosystems to new stakeholders and participants

Researchers are encouraged to submit an abstract of up to two hundred and fifty (250) words outlining experiences with Open Education, the use of Open Research practices, Open Research tools or the creative use of Open Data.
Applicants are reminded that the presentations will be open to the public and accordingly, abstracts and presentations should be prepared with a public audience in mind and use accessible language.
Submissions can cover proposed research, research in progress or completed research.

If you submit as a team make clear who the team lead is.

Open Scholarship is all about collaboration and in that spirit we welcome Open team efforts!

Just make sure you name a lead applicant who we can communicate with.

Closing date for applications is 16 April 2021. 

Successful applications will be notified by 23 April 2021.

Successful applicants will be invited to present their research in an online competition
through a lightning presentation format up to ten minutes in duration on 14 May 2021 from 10.00 am – 12.00 pm.

Applicants are reminded that the presentations will be open to the public and accordingly, abstracts and presentations should be prepared with a public audience in mind and use accessible language. Think of presenting to your friends rather than an academic conference.
Submissions can cover proposed research, research in progress or completed research.

If you are selected we will ask you to prepare a lightning talk of no more than 10 minutes to be presented on 14th May 2021 between 10-12. The lightning talks will be part of the Open Scholarship Week 2021.

Prizes will be presented to the equivalent value of €500 for First Place, €300 for Second Place and €200 for Third Place.

In case a team is among the winners the prize will be forwarded to the team lead.
