Open Scholarship Café: Creating Value with Open Source Blockchain Business Models
Back after a summer break our virtual Open Scholarship Café returned on 25th September with a talk about “Creating Value with Open Source Blockchain Business Models“. Our speaker was Dr Trevor Clohessy from GMIT. Trevor was introduced by Dr. Eoin Cullina of the Whitaker Institute at NUI Galway.
This talk acted as an introduction to open source and business models in the context of blockchain technologies, designed to discuss the factors that have made open source and business models essential and important in today’s interconnected digital world. Trevor highlighted how business value can be derived from open source blockchain technologies.
While open source software has become the de-facto business model for technology, there is a scarcity of empirical evidence, apart from Bitcoin and Ethereum, to suggest how open source can be used by organisations to leverage business model value from blockchain.
The talk presented an overview of a bespoke blockchain business model strategyzer grid that can be used to create robust open source blockchain business models.
