Open Scholarship Café: Open Fintech, blockchain and cryptocurrencies – The future of Open Finance
Following our recent Open Scholarship Café on Open Innovation, on 2nd July 2020 OSCG members and guests met to hear about “Open Fintech, blockchain and cryptocurrencies – The future of Open Finance“. Our speakers were Dr. Eoin Cullina of the Whitaker Institute at NUI Galway and Aonghus O’Heocha of Fluid Fintech.
In this talk we examined financial technologies that will be dominant from 2025 onwards. In particular, Aonghus and Eoin outlined the future use of new open technologies such as Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT) in the financial services sector.
Eoin started with a background introduction to open finance, blockchain and cryptocurrencies. Then Aonghus provided a more in depth look at applications and use cases for DLT in the financial services sector and explained blockchain use cases, opportunities and risks.
